Donald Joseph Peterson, 93, died April 1, 2012.
Donald was born March 24, 1919 in rural Eagle Bend, the son of William and Lily Mae (Dobbins) Peterson. He attended country school at the Carter School near Eagle Bend through the eighth grade. He farmed in the Eagle Bend area until he was united in marriage to Rachel Springer on March 19, 1941. Donald then became employed by the Weyerhauser Timber Company in Longview, Washington.
Donald enlisted in the United States Army on December 28, 1941 and served in the European Theater as a truck and tank driver. He was discharged on November 11, 1945 from Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
Donald purchased his farm near Alexandria on July 15, 1946. He also was employed at Osborne McMillan/Hubbard Milling from March 24, 1953 to March 24, 1984. Rachel died on March 18, 2005, and Donald lived on the farm until 2008 when he entered Edgewater Vista, where he continued to live until his death.
He is survived by his five children, Ace (Penny) of Montrose, Colorado, Lee (Becky) of Wasilla, Alaska, Ian (Sue) of Mannsville, NY, Ardelle (Howard) Hanson of Garfield, and Eunice (Mike) Bolles of Elbow Lake; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Donald was influential in the lives of many of his children’s friends, especially Ruth, Buddy Anderson and Judy (Gary) Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rachel; two sisters and three brothers.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Roy Williams, Martha Nelson and Jane Miller officiating. Music will be provided by Ruth and Buddy Anderson, singers and Rhonda Navratil, keyboardist. Pallbearers will be Jason Carlson, Matthew Loverink, Jesse Loverink, Chris Hanson, Karen Carlson and Earl Peterson.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Rosella Edna Timm, 87, Alexandria, died Friday, March 30, 2012.
Rosella was born August 3, 1924 in Gaylord, the daughter of Albert and Ida (Schauer) Goetsch. She was raised on the family farm and schooled at Gaylord. Following her schooling, Rosella began working with her brother at a restaurant and gas station in Gaylord.
On December 2, 1945 Rosella was united in marriage to Ellsworth Timm in Gaylord. The couple made their home in Gaylord until 1957. Rosella and her family moved to Montevideo and later to Coon Rapids in 1961. Ellsworth took a job teaching at Alexandria Technical College and the family moved to Alexandria in 1963. Rosella has been a resident of Alexandria for the last 49 years.
Rosella was an excellent fisherwoman. She loved fishing in the summer and winter. Rummaging and buying antiques at rummage sales was something Rosella enjoyed. She bought antique furniture pieces, which Ellsworth repaired or restored for her. Rosella also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle. She was an excellent cook and baker; no one made fried chicken better than Rosella. Her family was Rosella’s greatest joy and she loved spending time with her brothers and sisters, her grandchildren and her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth Timm; three brothers, Benny, Delford and Arnold Goetsch; and two sisters, Ella Perbix and Melinda Doerre.
Rosella is survived by her three children, Laura Buss and husband, Al, of Morris, Jeff Timm and wife, Mary, of Alexandria and Linnae Pederson of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Jon Buss, Darin (Stephanie) Buss, Erika (Sam) Rodriguez, Josh Timm, Aaron (Nicole) Pederson and Adam (Melissa) Pederson; great-grandchildren, Tyler Buss, Trevor Buss, Travis Buss, Logan Timm, Shane Timm, Benjamin Rodriguez, Jacob Rodriguez, Anicia Menefee and Mason Pederson.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The Rev. Greg Billberg will officiate. Randy Morken and Corey Peterson will provide music. Interment will follow at Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers include Aaron Pederson, Adam Pederson, Jon Buss, Darin Buss, Josh Timm, Dereck Buss and Ryan Buss.
Visitation is Tuesday, April 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
