APPRECIATION !!

As 2012 comes to a close, I am restating my appreciation for the class of 1967.

Regarding the class reunion, I want to again thank Steve Colby and Florence Nelson for being part of ‘Team45’. Yes, and even Ed Fluegel for his stubborn input on the room and such.

I realize it sometimes takes great effort, planning, and self-convincing to show up … So, to those of you who were there Friday night or Saturday morning or Saturday evening > thank you from me and the others who were there as well. And if you missed the 45th … 50 is just around the corner.

I’d also like to thank Eddy’s Interlachen Inn (www.interlacheninn.com) who went above and beyond to do battle with mother nature’s furnace. Thank you to Gerry Hesse for letting us invade Geneva Grill for our Saturday morning coffee (www.genevagolfclub.com). A final thank you to The Phoenix … which seemed to be a perfect fit for our gathering Saturday evening. (www.thephoenixeventcenter.com) ….. Oh, I’m forgetting the food vendor: The Depot (http://depot-express.com) excellent !!

I will continue to keep watch for family obits and such … I do appreciate those “heads up” I get from y’all along the way. Please, if there’s anything you’d like to share with the class … just email me and I will send out a notice and/or post on our blog … happy news IS acceptable !!

Thank you for being part of my journey & to a healthy 2013! A new year is on the way and the possibilities are endless !!

Hugs & peace! /westby

Erika grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1991. She continued her education by graduating from Augsburg College and the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. She most recently worked as a Physician Assistant at the V.A. Clinic in Alexandria.

Erika was a smart, athletic and friendly woman who achieved anything she set her mind to. She could light up a room with her infectious smile. She made the right choices in her life and made her family very proud of what she had accomplished. She will always be known to her father as “Daddy’s Little Girl”. Saturday mornings were spent with her mom, Kelsi and all the little boys at Caribou visiting and carrying on.

Erika met Sam Rodriguez briefly in Alexandria in 1997, the two then crossed paths 2 years later. They were united in marriage on September 13, 2003 at the Alexandria Covenant Church. Wonderful twin boys were born to this couple on October 20th, 2009. This chapter in Erika’s book of life was her favorite. Sam and her boys meant the world to her and she loved spending all the extra time she had with them. Memories of Erika with her boys on the dock at the cabin, trips to sunny locations with Sam and family get-togethers will always be cherished.

She had a strong faith in the Lord and helped many others in finding their way through faith. Shortly before Erika’s diagnosis with leukemia, she and Sam had started a couples’ Bible Study group and attended Alexandria Covenant Church and Living Word Christian Center in Minneapolis.

Erika was an amazing and passionate cook. She loved to entertain family and friends whenever she could. She was also a “Master” shopper and always had the latest fashions at the best prices for herself and her family. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

image       Eindride "Andy" Karlsgodt, 86, passed away at his home this past Tuesday, December 4, 2012. He received excellent care from hospice services and his wife and nurse, Donna.
Andy was born in Minneapolis on April 23, 1926 to Herman and Anna Karlsgodt. They moved to Akeley in 1928. Andy graduated from Akeley High School in 1944 and joined the Navy. He served as a gunner in a dive-bomber until his discharge in 1946. He later joined the Air Force Reserves and proudly served for 42 years.
Andy graduated from Bemidji State College in 1953 with majors in English, social studies and humanities. During the spring of his senior year while playing golf in St. Cloud for the college team, the superintendent of the Alexandria schools met him on the first tee and Andy signed his first teaching contract. For the next 30 years, he taught English, social studies, best sellers, journalism and aviation classes in Alexandria. He wrote a curriculum for the aviation class and submitted it to the state of Minnesota and they approved it. Several schools used his curriculum throughout the state.
Andy received his master’s degree from NDSU. He served as the president of the Alexandria Teachers Association and was very active in the local chapter of Civil Air Patrol. For 35 years, Andy was a crop, hail and wind insurance adjuster.
On retirement, Donna and Andy spent many winters working with Wycliff Bible translators at the JAARS aviation center in South Carolina, at the linguistic center in Dallas and at the Mexican center in Catalina, Arizona. Creating grouse habitat and managing the land was as good as it got for Andy.
Family was very important to Andy. He loved traditions and passing along his Christian values, heritage and love of the outdoors. He was a staunch advocate of higher education and very proud of his family's academic pursuits as well as their athletic and musical accomplishments.
