John Hustad > Brother, Lee 03.04.2021




Lee D. Hustad, age 68, of Vining, passed unexpectedly on Thursday, March 4, 2021in his favorite chair at home.

A memorial service honoring Lee’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 18, 2021, at Grace Christian Church in Parkers Prairie with Pastors Jeremy Schneider and Isaiah Schneider officiating.  The service will be live streamed from Lee’s memorial page on the funeral home website. Music will be provided by Karen and Eric Amundson and Abigail Schneider.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lee Douglas was born on September 22, 1952, the youngest of four, to Chester and Lillian (Rosengren) Hustad in Alexandria.  He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1970, and attended Alexandria Technical College where he studied tool and die.  Lee was united in marriage to Roxanne Siirila on June 22, 1974, in Apple Valley.  Following their marriage, they lived in Waconia for a few years while he worked at Eaton Corporation. They also lived on the Iron Range for a couple of years while he worked as an electrician.  They returned home to Alexandria where he worked for Xcel Energy for the next 37 years, retiring at 61 years of age.  He and Roxanne built their retirement home on their land in rural Vining where he enjoyed spending time in the woods and outdoors, chopping wood, landscaping, and gardening.  He was a very handy man, hardworking and cared deeply about his family and providing for them.  In his free time, Lee enjoyed wood carving, fishing, hunting, and making fishing lures. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was extremely proud of his Norwegian heritage.  Lee was a member of Grace Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lillian Hustad; brother, Jerry Hustad; and father-in-law, Floyd Siirila.

Lee is survived by his wife of 46 year, Roxanne; son, Chris (Jamie) Flynn of New York Mills; four daughters, Renae Bolton of Alexandria, Amy Braun of Fargo, North Dakota, Crystal (David) Saldivar of Madera, California and Stacey (Chadrick) Walsh of Fargo, North Dakota; mother-in-law, Arlene “Nana” Siirila; 15 grandchildren, Jasmine, Gunnar, Jonathan, Karissa, Adam, Hailey, Makenna, Logan, Mia, Lily, Olivia, Emma, Aiden, Mason, and Maycee; great-grandson, Jacob; many nieces and nephews, and faithful, furry companion, Inky.

Urnbearers are Karissa Downing, Adam Saldivar, Rick Setterlund, and Blaine Gulbranson.  Honorary urnbearers are David Saldivar, and Chadrick Walsh.

Memorials are preferred.

 Jerome (Jerry) Bernett Hustad passed away on July 8, 2020 suddenly but peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN.

Jerry was born on October 19, 1940 to Chester (Chet) and Lillian Hustad in Alexandria, MN.  He graduated from Alexandria High School.  He was married to Phyllis Englebrecht on May 18, 1963 and they remained married for over 57 years. 

He was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) during his occupation as an electrician of which he was very proud. 


Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting of every kind. He spent many hours at the Hustad hunting camp outside of Biwabik getting ready for the big opening weekend.  He loved spending time on the water and in the woods with his family and friends and all his “fur companions” who were all named “Duchess”.

Jerry’s family and friends will always remember him for his hospitality, smile and many stories.  Jerry had his opinions and was always up for a friendly debate.

Jerry is survived by his sons Greg (Kim) Hustad of Cape Coral, FL and Douglas (Kelly Laugen) Hustad of Biwabik; sister Nancy (Jim) Johnson, Columbus, OH; Lee (Roxanne) Hustad of Alexandria, MN; and John Hustad of Minneapolis, MN; his brother in-law Warren (Norma) Engelbrecht, Alexandria, MN; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loyal companion Duchess “Duchy”.

He is preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, parents Chester and Lillian; his father and mother in-law Ralph and Mayme Engelbrecht. 

A Gathering for Family and Friends will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, July 31st, at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Please follow social distancing guidelines.
