     Rosella Edna Timm, 87, Alexandria, died Friday, March 30, 2012.
Rosella was born August 3, 1924 in Gaylord, the daughter of Albert and Ida (Schauer) Goetsch. She was raised on the family farm and schooled at Gaylord. Following her schooling, Rosella began working with her brother at a restaurant and gas station in Gaylord.

On December 2, 1945 Rosella was united in marriage to Ellsworth Timm in Gaylord. The couple made their home in Gaylord until 1957. Rosella and her family moved to Montevideo and later to Coon Rapids in 1961. Ellsworth took a job teaching at Alexandria Technical College and the family moved to Alexandria in 1963. Rosella has been a resident of Alexandria for the last 49 years.

Rosella was an excellent fisherwoman. She loved fishing in the summer and winter. Rummaging and buying antiques at rummage sales was something Rosella enjoyed. She bought antique furniture pieces, which Ellsworth repaired or restored for her. Rosella also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle. She was an excellent cook and baker; no one made fried chicken better than Rosella. Her family was Rosella’s greatest joy and she loved spending time with her brothers and sisters, her grandchildren and her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth Timm; three brothers, Benny, Delford and Arnold Goetsch; and two sisters, Ella Perbix and Melinda Doerre.

Rosella is survived by her three children, Laura Buss and husband, Al, of Morris, Jeff Timm and wife, Mary, of Alexandria and Linnae Pederson of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Jon Buss, Darin (Stephanie) Buss, Erika (Sam) Rodriguez, Josh Timm, Aaron (Nicole) Pederson and Adam (Melissa) Pederson; great-grandchildren, Tyler Buss, Trevor Buss, Travis Buss, Logan Timm, Shane Timm, Benjamin Rodriguez, Jacob Rodriguez, Anicia Menefee and Mason Pederson.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The Rev. Greg Billberg will officiate. Randy Morken and Corey Peterson will provide music. Interment will follow at Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers include Aaron Pederson, Adam Pederson, Jon Buss, Darin Buss, Josh Timm, Dereck Buss and Ryan Buss.
Visitation is Tuesday, April 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Diane Duenow > Father 02.21.12

      William Louis Duenow, age 96, of New London, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, at Glen Oaks Care Center.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be at Ft. Ridgely Cemetery near Fairfax at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice.
William was born Sept. 25, 1915 at home in Cario Township near Fairfax, Minnesota to Julius and Wilhelmina (Fischer) Duenow. William attended school at the Red Maple District 39 in Rural Fairfax and the Christian Day Parochial School at St. John's Lutheran School in Fairfax.
On October 2, 1940, he married Inez Gieseke at St. John's Lutheran Church in Raymond. He farmed for 13 years in the Fairfax area before being employed by the State of Minnesota as a Park Manager for 27 years. He worked at Alexander Ramsey Park in Redwood Falls, Ft. Ridgley State Park near Fairfax and Lake Carlos State Park near Alexandria. Bill retired from the DNR on April 29, 1979. He moved to Spicer in 1992 and most recently resided at Glen Oaks in New London.
Bill and Inez were active in the Site Council and serving meals for the Senior Citizens in Spicer. They also loved to dance. In the early years of their retirement, Bill & Inez traveled to Texas a few months each winter. They also traveled the United States on numerous bus tours. Bill loved the outdoors; he especially enjoyed ice fishing along with grouse and deer hunting. The only thing Bill loved more than the outdoors was to spend time with his family — especially his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three daughters, Ardys (and David) Lais of New London, Diane (and James) Meyer of Blue Earth and Wendy (and Duane) Brownlee of Detroit Lakes; five grandchildren, Daniel (and Mandy) Lais, Sarah (and Christopher) Scribner, Duane Jr. (and Andrea) Brownlee, Kristina (and Barry) Meyers and Denise (and Randy) McReynolds; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and three sisters.

Harold Reuter > Mother 01.13.12

     Irene Ann Thomas, 96, died Friday, January 13, 2012
                                      at the Maple Grove Hospital.

Irene was born February 2, 1915 to John and Abby (Hermes) Patrick in Belle River. She attended Belle River country school and then periodically worked as a nanny/midwife for area families. Irene worked at Miller’s Inn on Lake L’Homme Dieu as a waitress and cook. She met Jack Reuter while she worked at Miller’s Inn and they were united in marriage on June 13, 1944 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River.
They purchased a resort on Lake Carlos and called it Reuter’s Resort. They had three children, David, Harold and Joann.
Jack died in 1955. Irene then married Herbert Thomas on June 16, 1958. They operated Reuter’s Resort until 1988 when they sold the resort. Herbert died in 2000. Irene continued to live on the resort property, where she resided until her death.
Irene was a hospitable woman with a gracious heart. She was always appreciative of the kindness others gave to her. Irene was an avid fisherperson and she liked to garden. The love for her family could easily be seen in her eyes as she looked upon each of them.
She is survived by her sons, David Reuter of Watertown, Harold Reuter of Farmington; daughter, Joann (Darrell) Meyer of Rogers; four grandchildren, Jeremy Meyer of St. Louis Park, Corey Meyer of St. Louis Park, Hanni (John) Pulley of Mound, and Melissa Reuter of St. Paul; four great-grandchildren, Alexandra Zencius-Meyer, Scott Long, Leah Pulley and Jackson Pulley; sisters, Mildred (Jack) Sigfrid of Dayton, Mary Ann Black of Alexandria; brother, Richard Patrick of Inver Grove Heights; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jack Reuter; second husband, Herbert Thomas; brothers, Bill, Clarence, Toby, Ted, Harold, Roy, Harry and Alfred.
A funeral service was held for Irene on Friday, January 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Interment was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jeremy Meyer, Corey Meyer, Hanni Pulley, John Pulley and Melissa Reuter.

Vincent Turner 01.10.12

   Vincent W. Turner, age 63, of Ivanhoe, MN, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Sioux Falls VA Health System in Sioux Falls, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11a.m. on Saturday, January 14th at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe with Father Ron Huberty as celebrant. Visitation will be 5 to 7p.m. on Friday, January 13th at the Birk Funeral Home in Ivanhoe with a prayer service at 7p.m. and the rosary 5p.m.. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Ivanhoe, MN with military honors by the Ivanhoe VFW Post 2980.
Vincent William Turner was born on July 19, 1948 in Napa, California to parents Vincent P. and Mary Anne (Reardon) Turner. On February 4th, 1969 Vincent enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and he proudly served his country for two years until he was honorably discharged in 1971. After his military service Vince went on to college to earn his Masters Degree.
Vince was united in marriage to Beverly Peacock on June 27, 1970 in Osakis, Minnesota and to this union they were blessed with two children. Vince had owned and operated the Ivanhoe Times Newspaper for fifteen years and worked for the National Association of Broadcasters. He also worked at other various places in his life including Lincoln/Pipestone Rural Water and for Lincoln County.
Vince enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed reading, cooking and playing cards and softball. Vince was an avid watcher of movies and the Minnesota Twins. He always wanted to learn something new and he enjoyed telling stories, jokes and talking politics.
Vince was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe and a member of the Shaokatan and Arco Sportsmen’s Clubs and the Ivanhoe VFW Post 2980.
Grateful for having shared Vincent’s life is his wife of forty-one years, Beverly Turner of Ivanhoe; his two children, Melissa (Matt) Turner of Sioux Falls, SD and Richard (Jacki) Turner of Brookings, SD; three sisters, Anne Marie Turner of CA, Barbara (Steve) Sampson of Minnetonka, MN and Jane Turner of St. Paul, MN; one half brother, Michael Simpson of NC and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather; one half brother, Peter Simpson and one uncle, Judge William Reardon.

Classmate > Karen Hepper 12.26.11

        Karen Elizabeth Hepper Common was born September 8, 1949,
                               and died December 26, 2011. She was 62.
She is survived by her three children, April, Mike and Lindsay; four grandchildren; sister, Jaci Bateman; nieces and nephews; as well as her longtime love, David Lario.
She was born in Fargo, North Dakota to Alex and Letietia Hepper. Karen graduated from Alexandria High School in 1967. She moved to Livermore, California in 1969, where she raised her family and worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory until she retired two years ago and moved to Oakdale, California.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David and sister, Vicki.

Remembered as Classmate, Marie June Collins Baas 12.22.2011

         Marie June Baas, 62, died Friday, December 22, 2011,

                                      surrounded by her beloved family.

A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Alexandria on Saturday, January 7 with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m.
Marie was born February 9, 1949 in Alexandria to Clyde and Mertyce (Cole) Collins. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1968.
She married Robert Baas on October 7, 1967. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliaries, Outreach Food Shelf, Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and Vintage Car Club.
Her family was the most important thing in her life; being a grandma. She showered them with love, joy and praise. Her unconditional love extended beyond her family and she touched the lives of friends who couldn’t help but love her in return.
Marie enjoyed reading, baking, gardening and canning and enjoyed going for rides in their vintage cars to go for ice cream.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Paula (Milo) Scott of Wadena, Timothy (Melissa) Baas of Carlos, and Michael (Amanda) Baas of Holmes City; grandchildren, Tyler and Kendra Scott, Jordon and Harliann Baas and Hunter Baas.
She is also survived by her brothers, Gary Williams and Dennis Collins; and sister, Patricia Owens.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Marie will be laid to rest at the Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria.

Virginia Larson > Mother 11.05.2011

Doris Mae (Boerner) Larson was born on November 20, 1921 in St. Paul. She passed away at the age of 89 years on November 5, 2011 in Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Van Dyke Larson and by her sister-in-law, Helen Larson Carufel.

Doris is survived by her three daughters, Christine George, Virginia Larson, and Nancy Witter; granddaughter, Leslie Witter; and sister, Patricia Dehler.

Doris was a lifelong resident of the Alexandria area. When she was a child, she lived with her grandparents, Herman and Amelia Borner, on Maple Street. She graduated from Central High School in 1939. After graduation Doris attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis for one year.

Doris and Roger were married on January 11, 1941 in Hudson, Wisconsin. While Roger was serving in the Army during World War II, Doris worked at the Northwest Bomber Modification Center at Holman Airfield in St. Paul.

After the war, they moved to the West Coast where they lived for several years. In 1951 they returned to Minnesota and built a house on Lake Mina, west of Alexandria, that was their home for nearly 40 years. Doris loved the lake and raising her family there. In addition to being a homemaker, Doris was an employee at Olson’s Super Market and the Red Owl for many years.

Doris had broad interests: she was an avid reader, followed politics and sports, and appreciated a variety of music. She loved nature and animals, and through the years cared for many family pets. Family and friends were always an important part of her life.

Doris spent her later years at Bethany Community. Her family is grateful for the care she received there.

A private graveside service officiated by Pastor Andrea Olson was held at Evergreen Cemetery on Monday, November 8, 2011.
