       Eindride "Andy" Karlsgodt, 86, passed away at his home this past Tuesday, December 4, 2012. He received excellent care from hospice services and his wife and nurse, Donna.

Andy was born in Minneapolis on April 23, 1926 to Herman and Anna Karlsgodt. They moved to Akeley in 1928. Andy graduated from Akeley High School in 1944 and joined the Navy. He served as a gunner in a dive-bomber until his discharge in 1946. He later joined the Air Force Reserves and proudly served for 42 years.
Andy graduated from Bemidji State College in 1953 with majors in English, social studies and humanities. During the spring of his senior year while playing golf in St. Cloud for the college team, the superintendent of the Alexandria schools met him on the first tee and Andy signed his first teaching contract. For the next 30 years, he taught English, social studies, best sellers, journalism and aviation classes in Alexandria. He wrote a curriculum for the aviation class and submitted it to the state of Minnesota and they approved it. Several schools used his curriculum throughout the state.
Andy received his master’s degree from NDSU. He served as the president of the Alexandria Teachers Association and was very active in the local chapter of Civil Air Patrol. For 35 years, Andy was a crop, hail and wind insurance adjuster.
On retirement, Donna and Andy spent many winters working with Wycliff Bible translators at the JAARS aviation center in South Carolina, at the linguistic center in Dallas and at the Mexican center in Catalina, Arizona. Andy went on several mission trips to South Africa, Mexico and Ecuador. He was very active in the inception of Grace Church in Alexandria. He served as church chairman and in numerous other capacities. He was an active Gideon and very proud of their ministry. Both Andy and Donna served Trout Lake Bible Camp for many years as volunteers preparing the camp, grounds and cabins for the summer ministries.
Andy was also very proud of his Norwegian heritage. He actively traced his genealogy, compiling a very thorough family tree and history. He was a member of the Valdres Samband, serving as president and as a member of the advisory council. He traveled to Norway four times, tracing his family tree and connecting with family from the "old" country.
He loved the outdoors, spending many days at his tree farm at Nevis. Deer hunting was a passion and he never missed a season, including this year, when under hospice care, he still managed to get "up in his stand" for a weekend. Creating grouse habitat and managing the land was as good as it got for Andy.
Family was very important to Andy. He loved traditions and passing along his Christian values, heritage and love of the outdoors. He was a staunch advocate of higher education and very proud of his family's academic pursuits as well as their athletic and musical accomplishments. One of his most special holiday activities was singing around the piano with the family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donna; children, Terry (Jane) of Atwater, Julie (Brent) Bostrom of Bloomington, IL, Sara (Dean) Palermo of Ramsey, and Kevin of San Antonio, TX; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 10 from Grace Church in Alexandria. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Violet Heid, age 92 of Alexandria, formerly of Nelson passed away on November 29, 2012 at the Douglas County Hosptial in Alexandria, MN.
Violet Emma Brandt was born on August 7, 1920 in Rosebud, North Dakota to Paul and Teakla (Yaeger) Brandt. She was married on November 7, 1938 in Mandan, North Dakota to Arthur J. Heid. They farmed for over twenty years near New Salem, North Dakota before moving their family to a farm near Nelson, MN in 1958. Vi worked very hard right beside her husband. She enjoyed doing the farm work together and loved taking care of the animals. After Art's death in 1990, Violet moved to Alexandria, MN.
Violet worked as a fry cook for many years at the Alexandria Golf Club. She also worked for the 3M Company in Alexandria for ten years and finished her working years as a cook at the Geneva Bible Camp, reaching the age of eighty years before her retirement. She was a member of the Fahlun Lutheran Church of Nelson and later joined the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carlos.
Violet put a high priority on her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They knew she would always keep them in her prayers and was a beautiful example of someone with strong faith. She was a wonderful cook and baker who always enjoyed finding new recipes to try. She also liked to garden, travel and work on sewing or various craft projects. She wasn't afraid to get outdoors and after her retirement from 3M, she often went ice fishing with her husband, Art and her son, Bryan. Traveling, dancing and listening to old time country music were other past times she enjoyed. She truly enjoyed and appreciated all of her many special friends.
Violet is survived by nine of her ten children, Carol (George) Woods of Colorado Springs, CO, Lila (Duane) Miller of Westminster, CO, Artis (Frank) Rosch of Alexandria, Janice (Bruce) Olson of Bloomington, IL, Marlys (Bill) Schuldt of Alexandria, Ellie (Les) Kuehl of Alexandria, Carla (Al) Brown of Hutchinson, Candace (Brian) Mattocks of St. Peter and Bryan (Kathy) Heid of Nelson, MN; a son-in-law, Bryan Withers of Osakis; 25 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Art in 1990; a daughter, Lois Withers; 3 brothers, Julius, Robert and Henry and 5 sisters, Rose, Esther, Lillian, Myrtle and Hazel.
Funeral services for Violet were held on Monday, Dec. 3 at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carlos with Vicar Phillip Petersen officiating. Musicians were organist, Joan Petersen, violinist was Vicar Petersen, soloist Dana Hetland and hymns were also lead by Pastor Pete Reishus with his guitar. Interment was at the Trinity Cemetery in Carlos, MN with honorary bearers being her 25 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Active bearer were by her ten in-laws, George Woods, Duane Miller, Bryan Withers, Frank Rosch, Bruce Olson, Bill Schuldt, Les Kuehl, Al Brown, Brian Mattocks and Kathy Heid.

Paula Noonan > Sister 11.06.2012

Noonan-Demaree, Patricia57, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away suddenly on November 6, 2012. Pat was born on July 10, 1955, in Alexandria, MN and graduated from Scottsdale High in 1973. She is survived by the love of her life, Bruce, and his family who wholeheartedly embraced her: sons Tod (Nancy), and Travis (Charlotte) as well as 6 grandchildren and Bix, her mother-in-law. Pat is also survived by her mother, Mary Noonan, sisters Paula (Allan) Teichman and Marcia (Scott) Nelson, brothers Phil (Carol) Noonan and David (Nancy) Noonan; nephew Phil (Lori) Noonan and niece Michelle (Buddy) Rice. Pat and Bruce loved riding their horses and her artistic talent showed in her hair styling business. She always had a story to tell and never met a stranger. Her clients became her friends and she was passionate about her dogs, their horses, the birds in her back yard, and even worked with the feral cat population in her neighborhood. Hafdal, Thomas "Tom" Born Dec. 31, 1948 in Alexandria, MN died peacefully Sept. 16, 2012.

Tom is survived by brothers, Gary Hafdal, Jim (Wanda) Hafdal, Rich (Sheridan) Hafdal; sister, Karen Bailey; many nieces, nephews & friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Lois Hafdal.

Tom was the light of our lives.

The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Friendship Manor for providing a loving and caring home for Tom. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and St. Francis Hospital for the kind and thoughtful care they gave to Tom.

Services will be held on Sat., Sept. 22 at 10am, at the Church of St. Mary in Shakopee, MN.

Memorials are preferred to Friendship Manor in Shakopee, MN.

   Viola "Ole" M. Henning, age 86, of Miltona, died Saturday, September 1, 2012, surrounded by family, at Knute-Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona with Rev. William Stockman officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Deb Joachim and vocalist, Gary Gylsen. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Miltona and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Viola Mae was born April 15, 1926, to Otto and Theresa (Roth) Bast, at home in Belle River Township. She was baptized May 9, 1926, and confirmed July 14, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carlos. She attended Country School District 92, and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1944. She was united in marriage to Melvin E. Henning on February 24, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carlos. Following their marriage they lived in Miltona where they raised their two children. Viola worked at local cafes in Miltona, and also cleaned many cabins on Lake Miltona. She was loved by so many people and her friendship was enjoyed by many, also. Viola was known for her canning and selling vegetables from her large garden, many stopped by her home to pick up the freshest vegetables and the short visits. She welcomed everyone. Highlights of her life included, Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and LWML, VFW Auxiliary for over 25 years, making quilts and selling poppies, Bible Study Group, Red Hats and their monthly lunches. Day trips around Minnesota with her family, Miltona Senior Citizens where she played cards and all enjoyed her homemade goodies, and for years she took her flowers and vegetables to the county fair where she won many ribbons. In her later years, she baked cookies and treats for the troops twice a year. She enjoyed her flowers from her deck and bird watching. She loved to dance and listen to music with her friends. Viola loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her three great-grandsons.
Viola is survived by her two children, Cheryl (Clem) Suchy and Donald Henning both of Miltona; grandson, Shane (Jodi) Suchy of St. Michael; three great-grandsons, Logan, Brady and Jake Suchy; sister, Lucille Wussow of Alexandria; four sisters-in-law, JoAnn Bast, Barbara Bast, Diane Bast and Helen Frier; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin in 2000; and three brothers, Harvey Bast, Lloyd Bast and Glen Bast.
Casket bearers will be Shane Suchy, Bill Reese, Rhiney Luedeke, David Mohn, DuWayne Olstad, Terry Stanley and Jeff Koep. Honorary casket bearers will be Jodi Suchy, Logan, Brady, and Jake Suchy, VFW Auxiliary, Bible Study Group and Red Hat Ladies.

Patty Bratton > Sister 08.19.12

      Beverly Jane Weisel, 80, died Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria after a short and courageous battle with Hodgkins lymphoma.

Beverly was born December 31, 1931 in Alexandria to Leonard and Pearl (Johnson) Bratton. She was baptized and confirmed at Holmes City/Oscar Lake parishes. The family moved to rural Holmes City where Bev went to school through the eighth grade at Pocket Lake School. Bev later attended Morris Ag School for two years and graduated with a home economics degree.
On October 1, 1949, Bev was united in marriage to William Weisel at the Oscar Lake Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Alexandria, later returning to the Oscar Lake area. They were blessed with three children, Wendy, Kevin and Darin. Bev was a “master domestic engineer,” as described by her children; but she would have explained it as a mother and homemaker. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and worked alongside Bill at Weisel Well Drilling. The couple enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona from 1986 until 2006.
Bev was a baker and cook extraordinaire; with her famous buns, rolls and sugar cookies. She enjoyed collecting memorabilia, commemoratives and antiques. Bev was a very generous lady with a really big-gifted heart. She loved the holidays and made the holidays very special for her family. Most of all, Bev loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
“It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.”
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Lonnie) Wing in Lake Mary Township; sons, Kevin (Pauline) Weisel of Alexandria and Darin (Kellie) Weisel of Farwell; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Judy Sayther) Bratton Jr. of the Twin Cities area; sisters, Bonnie (Greg) Soderberg of Las Vegas and Patty (Roy) Wicken of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bratton of Douglas, AZ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evie (Al) Halvorson of Farwell; and many nieces and nephews.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Pearl; husband, Bill; brothers, Beryl Bratton; Larry (Shirley) Bratton; sister, LaRae (Doug) Barros; and sister-in-law, Toby Bratton.
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 25 at Oscar Lake Lutheran Church in Holmes City Township with the Rev. Denise Croskey officiating. Organist was Sara Rensink. Inurnment was at Oscar Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Honorary urn bearers were the Apples Of Her Eye, her grandchildren, William Clay (Amanda) Weisel, Lindsay (Matt) Walliczek, Alyssa Anderson, Ashley Weisel, Jody Weisel, Owen Weisel, Josh Weisel, Sam Wing, Danielle (Max) Bogenrief; and great-grandchildren, Lily Weisel, Deidric Walliczek, Riley Weisel, and Kaylee Weisel, Abiah Bogenrief and Kole Bogenrief.
