Dean F. Peterson,
69, of Indianapolis, passed away May 16, 2019. He was born May 28, 1949 in Waseca, MN, to the late Wallace E. and Ruth Rosalind Peterson.

Dean was a graduate of Waseca High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree and Masters Degree from IUPUI in Education. Dean was an instructor of computer repair for Burroughs Corporation for 12 years, and a tax consultant at H & R Block for 9 years. He was an active member of Cumberland United Methodist Church, merged from Asbury United Methodist Church; and a Boy Scout Master for several years.
Dean was an avid bowler, a member of the Four Joy Quartet at Cumberland United Methodist Church, and he loved woodworking and restoring antique furniture.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Cumberland United Methodist Church, 219 North Muessing Street.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara Berg Peterson; son, Brett Peterson (Hannah); daughter, Jodi Havican (Jason); grandkids, Avery Peterson, Mattie Peterson, Raine Havican, Rowan Havican and Raithious Havican; brothers, David Peterson (Ruth) and Stanley Peterson (Mary); and several nieces and nephews. A son, David Peterson, preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Cumberland United Methodist Church, 219 North Muessing Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229.

 

Bonnie Smith > Mother 04.26.2019

Gloria Charlotte (Bardeau) Smith was born in Rochester, NY on May 27, 1923.

Gloria Smith was a long term resident of Alexandria, MN since 1964 when her husband Bruce P. Smith, had purchased the "Hamm's Beer" distributorship in Alexandria. Therefore, the family moved from Faribault, MN which was Bruce's hometown to Alexandria for the start of the new school year, fall of 1964.
Gloria passed away peacefully under Knute Nelson Hospice Care on April 26th, she was 95 years old.

Gloria was an incredible woman, she raised on her own, four amazing children after the early and untimely death of her husband Bruce on August 28, 1967.
Gloria was a voracious reader gifted debater and had a rapier wit.
Her most proud accomplishment was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she dearly loved.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Henderson and Barbara Durand; Sons Bruce (Chery) and Scott (Sue); grandchildren Jennifer (Christopher) Doyle, Christopher Boyd, Melissa (Mark) Campbell, Elizabeth Durand, Emillie (Dustin) Wright, Matthew Smith, Courtney (Adam) Fine, Hunter and Sam Smith. She is also survived by her great Grandchildren: Summer & Wilder Campbell and Addison Fine and her sister in-law June Smith and brother in-law Delbert Caron.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bruce; Parents Frederich & Grace Bardeau; sister Grace (Ray) Laws; sister in-law Olive Caron; brother in-law's George and Dr. Wayne Smith; and father and mother in-law Lucias and Emma Smith.
Services will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Teacher > Margaret Movold 5-5-2019

    Margaret Esther Movold was born on January 22, 1944 in Tacoma, Washington to Phillip and Esther (Haugo) Seeger.  She and her twin brother Richard “Richie” were born several months before their father left for Europe to serve in WWII.  Margaret graduated from Moorhead High School in 1961 and from Concordia College in 1965.  In 1965 she accepted a business education teaching position at Jefferson High School in Alexandria, MN.  The new teachers’ pictures were put in the newspaper that year and it was there that she caught the eye of Mark Movold.  Mark & Margaret were married one year later on August 13, 1966.
Margaret was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.  She taught Sunday School and Release-time and was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
Mark & Margaret’s son Erik was born in October of 1969 and daughter Megan was born in 1973.  Margaret always said her family was “the happiest part of my life.”  She loved being a wife and mother. She loved to cook and bake and was an avid Bridge player.  She also enjoyed her part-time job at the Scandinavian Gift Shop in Alexandria, where she loved to talk to the customers about her trips to the Scandinavian countries.  Margaret was also an excellent rosemaller and needlepointer.  She gave the gifts of her handiwork to family and friends, who treasure her beautiful work.
Margaret was preceded in death by her father in 1944, her brother Richard in 1971, husband Mark in 1994, Son Erik in 1995, her mother Esther in 2004, and daughter Megan in 2016.  Margaret also had a special friend, Jim Whitney, whom she met while living at Jones Harrison Assisted Living in Minneapolis.  Jim passed away in August of 2018.
Margaret is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Her sister-in-law Naomi Seeger, nephew Paul Seeger, niece Anne (Seeger) Spicer, (all of Minneapolis).  Nieces Robin Niedenfuer, Shelley Dargis-Ohlgren, Roxanne Tischer, Tammy Kluver (all of Alexandria).  Gayle Movold, Mary Jo Verbos, Vicki Mortenson (all of California).  Denise Grote (Fargo, ND), and families.
Margaret had more loyal friends than most people and she loved each and every one them and her family dearly.  To say that we will all miss her terribly is an understatement.  One of her favorite hymns was “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and that is how we will all remember Margaret, her faithfulness to her Lord was undying, her spirit never broken and her sense of humor intact, even through the kind of loss and suffering that most will never know.  She is Home!

Mike Kluver > Father 05.04.19

Arlo Junior Kluver was born on February 3, 1929 in Raymond, Minnesota, the son of William and Viola (Henslin) Kluver.
Arlo grew up on a dairy farm south of Nelson, MN on Smith Lake.  He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1947.  During his high school years he excelled in sports as a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams.  Upon graduating, Arlo attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.  It was there that his athletic skills were showcased at the collegiate level; playing on the Cobber football, basketball, baseball and track teams.
            On March 26, 1949, Arlo married his high school sweetheart; Mary Lou Peterson.  They made their home in Moorhead, St. Cloud, Ralston, Nebraska and settled back in the Alexandria area in 1960.  While in Alexandria, Arlo worked as a clothing salesman and owned a number of small businesses with Mary Lou; including the Sample Case Clothing Shop in downtown Alexandria.
            Arlo’s athletic legacy continued to grow through his passion for golf.  He was a proud member of the Alexandria Golf Club for over 60 years.  His accomplishments on the links and his larger than life personality at the Alexandria Golf Club gave him an iconic reputation in the local golf community.  He hit many errant, wild shots on the golf course; but had the talent and finesse to get the ball in the hole from anywhere…he was truly a “scrambler”.  Arlo’s golf legacy includes numerous Club Championships at Alexandria Golf Club, Geneva Golf Club and Osakis Country Club.   He has recorded (14) hole in ones in his career; his last one at the age of 85.
                       Arlo shared his love of the outdoors with his children and taught them lifelong skills of hunting and fishing that they will appreciate forever.  He had many great adventures fishing and moose hunting with his wonderful friends.  Arlo also loved to dance, yodel and sing his unique version of “The Old Gray Mare” to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.   
            Arlo died on May 4, 2019, at the age of 90.  He is survived by his  sons Michael (Lynette) Kluver of Alexandria; David (Randa) Kluver of Mesa, AZ; A.J. (Laurie) Kluver of Alexandria, and daughters MaryJo (Tom) Roos of Osakis, MN; and Lisa (Tony) Grimes of Gold Canyon, AZ. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, sister, Marlene Patton of Alexandria.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou, his parents, brothers ArDell, ArDean and sister Elaine.
            Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9th, at Living Word Lutheran Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will continue from 10 - 11 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., Friday, May 10th, at Living Word Lutheran Church with the Reverend John Martinson officiating.   

Linda Daker > Father 05.01.2019

 
Harry Robert Daker, the son of John and Letta (Kendall), was born on a farm near Staples, MN.  He attended grade school until the eighth grade and then enlisted into the United States Army.  Harry honorably served his country during WWII from 1942-1947.  After the war, Harry met the love of his life, Helen Rose Beltz.  They were united in marriage on September 14, 1948 in Breckenridge, MN.  They recommitted their wedding vows on their 70th wedding anniversary in 2018 at their home in Carlos, MN
Harry worked mainly as a carpenter however, he worked as a mail truck driver, manager of a drug store in White Center, WA, and managed grain elevators in Everdale and Carlos, MN.  He and his wife also owned a mobile home park in Carlos, MN for 35 years.
Harry was always kind hearted and giving to others.  Many nieces and nephews lovingly called their uncle Harry and aunt Helen’s house their home.    
Harry R. Daker died on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at his home of 57 years, in Carlos, MN.  He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Helen Daker of Carlos; children, Linda Fread, Robert Daker, Harry Jr. Daker, Donald Daker, Jim Daker, and David Daker; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Lila Krause of Fergus Falls and Benjamin Daker of Rapid City, SD; nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a still-born daughter; brothers, Luverne and Lawrance; sister, Maysel; granddaughter Jac-e Challes.
A visitation will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 4-7 PM with a 4:30 PM Prayer Service at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Breckenridge, MN with Military Honors accorded by the Breckenridge VFW.

Patty Bratton > Brother 02.22.2019

    Lenny Bratton was the fourth of seven children born to Leonard Eugene and J. Pearl (Johnson) Bratton. Dark haired and handsome, strong and smart...he was the middle of seven children. He and his siblings grew up in the country and worked the family farm where they learned to appreciate the outdoors, hunting, fishing and all water sports. He was a devoted son to his parents and a much loved brother and uncle.

Lenny attended country school through the eighth grade at Pocket Lake and also Holmes City. He completed his education in Douglas County Public Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1953. Lenny played high school sports including Football and Baseball.

In January 1954, Lenny enlisted in the United States Army Airborne arriving in Europe in March as a paratrooper/medical aidman in the Medical Company of the 11th Airborne Division 188th Infantry Regiment in Hohenfels, Germany. Upon his Honorable Discharge he attended and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in the Twin Cities.

Lenny made his home on Lake Brophy in Alexandria; and worked for many years with his friend Al Hartung at Oman's Supply Company. He owned the Book Nook and Smoke Shop in the Viking Plaza Mall. He then moved to St. Louis Park, where he worked for NAPA for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed his hunting camp near Red Lake and summers at his home on Lake Carlos. Lenny was a member of the Alexandria Viking Sportsmen, a lifetime member of the Alexandria Elks Lodge 1685 and a lifetime member of Alexandria VFW Post 936.

Lenny Bratton died Friday, February 22, the day after his 84th birthday at his and Judy's home in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Myrtle Ann "Toby" Bratton; sisters and brothers-in-law Beverly & Bill Weisel and LaRae & Doug Barros; brothers and sisters-in-law Beryl and Dorothy Bratton and Larry and Shirley Bratton; nephews Rick Barros and Keith Barros.

Lenny is survived by his devoted partner and companion of many years Judy Sayther of St. Louis Park; Judy's daughter Michelle Smith and her children Peyton and Charlie; sisters Patty (Roy) Wicken of Alexandria and Bonnie (Gregg) Soderberg of Las Vegas, Nevada; nephews and nieces: Barry (Elsa) Bratton, Douglas AZ; Cindy Bratton (Bernie) Michael, Tucson, AZ; Darin (Kelly) Weisel of Farwell; Wendy Weisel (Lonnie) Wing; Kevin (Pauline) Weisel; Terri Hansen Paradis (Jody Webeck); all of Alexandria. Rikki Hansen (Franco) Iglesias, Woodbury, MN; Lori Kay Dosa, Santa Clarita, CA; Ross Thompson, Las Vegas, NV, Lisa Sandstrom, Bird Island, MN; Leni Thompson Petter of East Bethel, MN; Tammie Barros (David) Olson of Coon Rapids; Debra Barros (Dan) Kulkay of Chandler, AZ; and many great nephews and nieces and his friends throughout the Alexandria Lakes Area.
 
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 29, from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the Alexandria Elks Lodge 1685, 115 15th Avenue West, Alexandria. Memorials preferred to the Veterans Memorial Park in Alexandria or the Wounded Warriors Project.

 

Teacher > Bob Rader

 

Robert (Bob) James Rader, was born December 20, 1931, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the son of Matthew and Mary Rader. Bob grew up in St. Cloud and was graduated from Cathedral High School. He lettered in baseball, basketball, football, and bowling and was a member of State Championship teams in basketball and baseball. After graduation in 1949, Bob attended St. Cloud Teacher's College and continued his education until entering the US Army in January of 1951. While in service, he attended Camp Desert Rock in Nevada and participated in witnessing the atomic tests that were conducted there and became the CBR non-com officer for his Regiment. He continued his service as an instructor/cadre sergeant until his discharge in September of 1952. He then returned to St. Cloud State University to complete Bachelor Degrees in Social Science, History, and Business. He began his professional career in Battle Lake, MN, teaching Social Science and Business Education and coaching all sports. In 1958, Bob moved to Alexandria and taught 29 years at Jefferson High School. Bob married Yvonne (Vonnie) Egerman from St. Cloud in 1956. They were blessed with three children, David, Ann, and Janice.

In 1962, Bob received a Master of Science Degree in Education from St. Cloud State University. In the late 60's, he started the first law-related education course in Minnesota at the high school level entitled "Civil Liberties, Youth and the Law." As a result of this course, Bob started writing law curriculum and was first published by Justice Publications of California when he wrote the first criminal mock trial books for high school use. Subsequently, in 1980, Bob started Law Instructor Publications, an educational publishing company in Alexandria. He has written some 26 educational books and products which are widely distributed throughout the United States and Canada.

Bob was very involved in professional organizations at the local and state level. For some nineteen years, he served as a board member of the Minnesota Council for the Social Studies, as a board member for Project New Hope, as Secretary of the Alexandria Golf Club, as President of the Vikingland Barbershop Chorus, and as a member of the first school board at St. Mary's School. Bob was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1986 and inducted into the District 206 Educational Hall of Fame in 2009.

After teaching thirty-two years, Bob and Vonnie took early retirement. In 1995, they bought a residence in Surprise, Arizona, where they enjoyed many winter seasons. He remained active in singing "karaoke" at local clubs and sports bars.

Robert (Bob) Rader passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the age of 87 years old.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Don (Peggy) Rader and sisters Joan Mundell and Bette Malone. Bob is survived by Vonnie, his wife of sixty-two years; three children, David (Martha) Rader of Minnetonka, Ann (John) Miesen of Lake George, and Janice (Steve) Ramberg of North Oaks. Also surviving him are two sisters, Janet Moynagh of Annandale, and RuthAnn Burke (John) of Steamboat Springs, CO, five grandchildren, Jacob (Rachel) Miesen, Andrea (Oscar) Aguilera, JulieAnn Rader, Sophia and Abby Ramberg, and four great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, from 4-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.  Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 AM.

Entombment will be at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Stroke Association, a division of
