Pastor Leon Zavadil    
Pastor Leon Zavadil, 63, Moorhead, MN died on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the VA Hospital, Fargo, ND.   Leon Zavadil was born on Aug. 29, 1949 to Edwin and Sylvia (Malmborg) Zavadil in Alexandria, MN.
He attended Lake Mary County School District 13 and graduated in 1967 from Jefferson High School, Alexandria. In 1971, he graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead. After his tour of duty in Vietnam, Leon taught music 1 year in the Alexandria school system. He then returned to MSUM and received his Masters in Music. For several years Leon was a vocalist and instrumentalist in a band called "Rhapsody" which toured the United States. 
On May 27, 1978, Leon married Katherine Stoffel and they were blessed with a son Christopher. Leon was employed by the US Postal Service for several years and after much soul searching Leon decided to attend Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. In 1998, The Reverend Leon Zavadil was ordained as an ELCA Lutheran Minister at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. For 9 ½ years he served First Lutheran Church of Enderlin, ND and Filmore Lutheran and they were blessed with his humor and kindness.
On October 22, 2005, Leon married Peggy Gay. In 2007, Leon and Peggy moved to Jamestown, ND and for 5 ½ years he served Trinity Lutheran Church. While there, great kindness was shown by the congregation. In May of 2013, Leon was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
 
Leon is survived by his wife, Peggy (Gay) Zavadil; his son Christopher; his brother Gary (Carol) Zavadil; his sister-in-law Estella Zavadil and many nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Sylvia (Malmborg) Zavadil, his brothers, Daryl and his wife Bonnie, Gaylen Zavadil, and several nieces and nephews.
 
Visitation: Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.      Funeral: Friday at 1 PM at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. 
Burial: Saturday at 10:30 AM at Bohemian Independent Cemetery, Alexandria.
