Sandy Rosengren > Father 04.11.11

Walter “Wally” Rosengren, 92, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 11 2011, at Knute Nelson Home.
He was born on the family farm close to Lowry, the son of Carl and Freda (Anderson) Rosengren. He attended country school through 8th grade. After working on the family farm for several years, he went to California and was employed by Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego. Wally then enlisted in the Navy, during which time he completed his high school education. He was stationed in Puerto Rico followed by the Naval Airbase in Miami, Florida.
Walter married Margaret Anderson, daughter of Victor and Emelia (Ostlund) Anderson, on November 26, 1943, at the First Evangelical Free Church of Minneapolis. They had 67 wonderful years together.
He was employed by the United States Post Office in Alexandria for 33 years, the last 13 years as assistant postmaster. He was a devout Christian and an active member of the Alexandria Covenant Church for 63 years. He was a member of Gideons International for 34 years. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf almost every morning with good friends from church.
Wally loved his family, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings at the cabin at Lake Ida were very special to him. He and Margaret loved to travel, making three trips to Sweden and visiting all but two of the United States. They spent 18 winters in Arizona, making many good friends and memories.
Wally is survived by his wife, Margaret; four children, Carol Latterell, Sandy McLauchlin, Marie Rosengren (Michael Monahan), and Gary (Lisa) Rosengren. He had 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Dennis McLauchlin and Tom Latterell; three sisters and three brothers.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Knute Nelson, where he was a resident for the past three years, receiving wonderful love and care.
A funeral service was held Friday April 15 at Alexandria Covenant Church with the Rev. John LaVahn officiating. The Rev. Steve Eng was the musician. There will be a private family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Casket bearers were John Kelly, Christian Earle, Brett Latterell, Brandon Latterell, Adam Rosengren and Erik Monahan.
